Formerly Saatchi & Saatchi’s Worldwide Deputy Chairman, Richard now runs beta baboon, a management consultancy he founded in 2016. Using the method baboons use to solve a complex problems – rip it apart, play with it, solve it – beta baboon helps leaders conceive, develop and land winning ideas for their organisations.
At London Business School, Richard teaches on both degree and executive education programmes as well as on two open programmes: Strategic Branding; and Market Driving Strategies. He runs an elective core course on Creativity in Business, supervises on the London CAP course and in 2019 will co-host the Global Business Experience in Brazil. Richard teaches leaders how to unearth fresh actionable customer and managerial insights; reignite individual, team and organisational creativity; and build winning brands and businesses.
Richard chaired, for five years, Planting Promise, a sustainable educational enterprise in Sierra Leone; and was, for eight years, a trustee of the British Heart Foundation. In 2015 he joined the Met Police Commissioner’s Management Board as a non executive adviser. Richard co-founded the Manchester United Supporters Trust and remains its President.
Whilst spending much of his career as CEO of creative businesses, Richard prefers leading from the shadows, the subject of his book, Consiglieri: Leading from the Shadows, published by Profile Books in 2014, reprinted in 2018 and available in paperback in 2019. It is a celebration of the craft of leadership that supports, counsels, challenges and checks the out and out charismatic leader.
Richard graduated from the Meyler Campbell coaching programme in September 2016.
