Dr Selin Kesebir’s research interests include co-operation, competition, gender, inequality and cultural transmission. Her research papers cover topics such as gender differences in response to competition with same-gender co-workers, how the growing disconnect from nature is evident in cultural products, and the effects of disclosing personal information on ethically distinct newcomers to a team.

Dr Kesebir teaches Executive Leadership and Negotiations at London Business School (LBS). Prior to joining LBS, she was a post-doctoral research associate at the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business. She is an editorial board member of the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, and was previously editor-in-chief and associate editor of In-Mind Magazine. Dr Kesebir has also reviewed various journals including Basic and Applied Social Psychology, British Journal of Social Psychology, Emotion Review, European Journal of Social Psychology and Merrill Palmer Quarterly. She has an MA in cognitive psychology from Northwestern University and a PhD in social psychology from the University of Virginia.

Much of Professor Mussweiler’s research focuses on social comparison processes – he examines how comparing with others changes people’s self-image, their motivation and performance.

Professor Mussweiler has extensive teaching experience at a variety of institutions. In his 20 years of teaching, he has taught decision making, negotiation, organisational behaviour and social psychology to a variety of different audiences. Professor Mussweiler is the recipient of a series of prestigious national and international awards, including the European Young Investigator Award and the Gottfried-Wilhelm-Leibniz-Award, and is a member of the German National Academy of Sciences. She has studied the impact of teams at the bargaining table, how stress influences negotiators’ choice of tactics, and how reputations for toughness undermine negotiators. Her recent research investigates how men’s and women’s facial features—their attractiveness as well as the masculinity/femininity of their facial features—influence how other people treat them. Her current project centres on women’s career paths to understand how women navigate moments of decision. Dr Aneeta Rattan’s research interests focus on mindsets and intergroup relations (stereotyping, prejudice, and inequity). In one programme of research, she studies mindsets that promote belonging, commitment, and achievement among minorities and women in the face of stereotypes and implicit bias. In another programme of research, she investigates the mindsets that help individuals, organisations, and societies foster positive interactions among diverse group members (across gender, race/ethnicity, and sexual orientation status), even after incidents of explicit bias.
